Radical Kindness

Writer's picture: Jerod StarkeyJerod Starkey

The guy was stripped, beaten and left for dead. He was passed up by people that were supposed to know better. But then he was picked up by someone who had compassion. And then he was shown radical kindness.

The kind of compassion the Bible talks about is a compassion that is so wild, it has to be uncomfortable at times. I think a lot of us would struggle with picking up a naked bloody dude off the side of the road, letting him ride in our car and then put him up for a couple of nights in a hotel.

That’s the example of kindness God’s giving us to model. Luke 10:25-37

Notice to left leaning friends: it’s not polity.

Notice to right leaning friends: the guy in the ditch wasn’t at fault.

Notice to Jesus affirming friends: it was outside the church walls.

Notice to myself: I can’t expect others to do what God has clearly placed in MY path to do.

Lots of shirts, bumper stickers, ads and smack about kindness these days. I think the Bible wins with the best example of what real kindness looks like. It’s messy. It’s financially irresponsible. It’s inconvenient. It’s radical.
