“And you shall tell your son on that day, saying, ‘It is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.” Exodus 13:8
I know there’s more happening here than God telling fathers to tell their sons their testimony. But sometimes I think parents gloss over giving credit to God, especially in the areas where God has done the most work on us.
I’m coming up on 6 years of sobriety - and it’s not something I want to bring up to my kids everyday. But it would be a detriment to them (and me) to not remember God’s deliverance in my life and recount the story for them as they mature and can understand more.
In the smaller victories of life, maybe it’s not as hard to retell the story, but the challenge is to give God the credit He deserves. It’s easy to leave Him out and skip past the spiritual with our kids. But it’s the God-honoring tidbits along the way that build their conception of Him and faith in who He is. I’m challenging myself not to leave Him out of the conversation or forget what He’s done and continually doing in my life.
